Who We Are
Founded in 2016, the Penn Med Symphony Orchestra aims to perform challenging and exciting works, while cultivating community through music for local medical professionals and students.
Our musicians come from across the Philadelphia region, representing a diverse spectrum of professionals - including physicians, nurses, dentists, researchers, veterinarians, professional students, and administrators.
We prepare two concerts each year, which are free for all to attend. Excitingly, we broadcast these performances across the Penn Medicine health network through our Penn TV channel, bringing music directly to patients and their families.
The orchestra is proud to engage in exciting collaborations, including side-by-side rehearsals with members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and joint performances with community-focused programs such as Play On, Philly!. Through these opportunities, we aim to provide our members with memorable experiences.
In addition to our large ensemble work, we maintain an active chamber music program. This program connects musicians into smaller ensembles, offering further opportunities to collaborate beyond the full orchestra.
